Games and Cards
My young son Alan had no interest in learning to read whatsoever. My other children just “got it” after a few sessions with traditional textbooks, but Alan never got the hang of reading. I found some good phonics programs in the library and decided to try the one that looked like it was the most fun. There were plenty of games and brightly colored flash cards that got him to focus on the task at hand. He learned the sound the letters make when combined into words, and everything seemed to fall into place. Now he can read simple children’s books, and I can tell he feels a sense of achievement.
