Learning how to setup an aquarium properly can be a bit tricky since it’s not like getting a hamster or a snake or anything simple. Fish live in water but they don’t like water that is full of chemicals like chlorine or fluoride typically found in drinking water. That means you need to treat your water before you put it in the tank unless you live out in the country or live in a city that doesn’t treat their water. Then you need to test the water and make sure everything is in balance. Even when everything looks good your fish might still die when you put them in the tank because there isn’t enough bacteria.
