Army Insignia is to be placed on uniforms in a very precise way, in order to meet U.S. military regulations.  After all, if the point of insignia is to assist others in identifying a soldier’s rank and grade, then placement of the insignia needs to be standardized.  For example, a shoulder insignia should be placed no more than one half inch below the shoulder seam, while rank insignias are worn on the sleeve between the elbow and the shoulder.  Every soldier is responsible for knowing and following military regulations by ensuring that whomever is sewing the insignia on a uniform is aware of the placements and measurements for the badges.
