I always knew about the tradition at weddings for the bride to throw her bouquet into a group of eligible women.  The tradition goes that the one who catches it will be the next to get married.  I have seen grown women stampede each other for the flowers.  The last wedding I went to they had a similar tradition for the men.  The new husband throws a satin garter belt from his new wife’s leg into a crowd of men.  The difference between the women and the men is that the men do everything in their power to avoid catching the garter.
